Formula and method
Five goals allowed in 120 minutes gives 2.5 goals per 60-minute game. Zero goals allowed over any positive playing time gives a GAA of zero.
GAA = total goals allowed × regulation minutes / minutes played

Assumptions and limitations
- Goals allowed is a nonnegative whole total over the same interval as minutes played. It is not goals per game and not goals scored by the team.
- Both durations must be positive and use minutes. For example, 90 seconds is 1.5 minutes.
- The 60-minute starting game length is editable. Use the regulation duration and scoring treatment appropriate to your competition.
Common questions
How do partial games affect the result?
The calculation scales by actual playing time. The same number of goals over fewer minutes produces a higher rate per regulation game.

Bookify accepts a zero goals-against average for a shutout and requires whole goals allowed.
