How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
  2. Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
  3. Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Formula and method

With the retained 30 ft (9.144 m) apple-tree spacing scenario, a 30 m by 20 m site has three by two complete spacing cells: six modeled positions.

Count = floor(length/spacing) × floor(width/spacing).

Worked example

Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.

Assumptions and limitations

  • This count uses complete spacing cells, not both endpoints of every row. It assumes a rectangular site, uniform square spacing and no separate setback or edge allowance.
  • Species presets are retained nominal spacing scenarios in feet, not site-specific planting recommendations. The spacing field shows the selected preset. Actual planting requires the species, mature canopy, machinery and local site plan.
  • Area is displayed in ares by default: 600 m² is 6 ares. A partial spacing cell is dropped rather than rounded up.

Common questions

What does this result represent?

This count uses complete spacing cells, not both endpoints of every row. It assumes a rectangular site, uniform square spacing and no separate setback or edge allowance.

Can I solve for another quantity?

Enter the known quantities and clear the unknown where an inverse relationship is available. Selection presets remain separate from measurements you supply; use locks to retain known inputs.
