How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
  2. Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
  3. Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Formula and method

A 20 m by 50 m rectangular lawn is 1,000 m². At an entered rate of 2.5 kg per 1,000 m², the required seed mass is 2.5 kg.

Mass = area × stated mass per 1000 area units ÷ 1000.

Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.

Assumptions and limitations

  • The rate is an entered product/application assumption. Species, seed purity, germination, overseeding and establishment method affect the appropriate actual rate.
  • The retained shapes are rectangle, circle, ellipse and triangle. Ellipse A and B are semi-axes, not full diameters.
  • The customary and metric rate defaults describe different approximate application scenarios. Unit changes preserve a supplied physical rate rather than making them agronomically equivalent defaults.

Common questions

What does this result represent?

The rate is an entered product/application assumption. Species, seed purity, germination, overseeding and establishment method affect the appropriate actual rate.

Can I solve for another quantity?

Enter the known quantities and clear the unknown where an inverse relationship is available. Selection presets remain separate from measurements you supply; use locks to retain known inputs.
