How to use this calculator
- Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
- Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
- Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Formula and method
A 10 m by 5 m area with a 10 cm layer needs 5 m³. At 650 kg/m³ and 50 per m³, its modeled weight is 3,250 kg and cost is 250.
Volume = area × layer depth; weight = density × volume; cost = volume × unit price.

Assumptions and limitations
- This model budgets a uniformly spread layer. It does not predict nutrient supply, settling, moisture changes or suitability for a particular soil.
- Density is an entered bulk density; the retained metric and customary defaults are distinct approximate scenarios. Use the supplier’s actual density for transport planning.
- Preset layer depths are retained planning assumptions. Choose a measured/custom depth for the actual application rather than interpreting a preset as a treatment recommendation.
Common questions
What does this result represent?
This model budgets a uniformly spread layer. It does not predict nutrient supply, settling, moisture changes or suitability for a particular soil.
Can I solve for another quantity?
Enter the known quantities and clear the unknown where an inverse relationship is available. Selection presets remain separate from measurements you supply; use locks to retain known inputs.

Bookify enforces finite physical or discrete inputs for this model and detects the stated selected-scenario relationships without changing the captured arithmetic graph. Bookify uses exact customary mass and volume definitions for density units, replacing rounded factors in the reference.
