How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
  2. Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
  3. Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Formula and method

Two 10 ft rows at the retained artichoke scenario of 0.5 lb per foot give a 10 lb (4.5359237 kg) yield estimate. The layout adds explicit end and aisle allowances.

Yield = row length × row count × yield rate; length = row length + 3 ft + twice plant spacing; width = (rows+1) × spacing +(rows−1) × 1.5 ft.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Crop rates and spacing are retained scenario constants. They do not predict harvest success, local cultivar performance or weather effects.
  • The layout uses a 3 ft end allowance, two plant spacings at the ends, and 1.5 ft between rows. These are the model’s footprint assumptions, not a complete garden design.
  • Crop-rate and spacing copies are read-only preset outputs. The editable yield participates in a reviewed consistency condition that detects conflict with locked row dimensions and the selected crop scenario.

Common questions

What does this result represent?

Crop rates and spacing are retained scenario constants. They do not predict harvest success, local cultivar performance or weather effects.

Can I solve for another quantity?

Enter the known quantities and clear the unknown where an inverse relationship is available. Selection presets remain separate from measurements you supply; use locks to retain known inputs.
