Formula and method
Monthly rent of 2,000 gives a combined income target of 6,000 under the entered three-times-rent convention. Split equally between two tenants, that is 3,000 each.
Combined monthly income target = 3 × monthly rent; equal tenant share = target ÷ tenant count
Worked example
Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.
- Monthly rent
- 2000 USD
- Monthly income target per entered tenant
- 6000 USD
Assumptions and limitations
- Three times rent is an explicit arithmetic assumption, not a universal rental requirement or approval decision.
- All money amounts are monthly and in one currency. The displayed target uses gross income by convention.
- Tenant count is a positive whole number. Equal division does not assess unequal incomes, debts, guarantors or landlord screening rules.
Common questions
Is three times rent always required?
No. This tool only applies that chosen convention. Actual screening criteria depend on the rental agreement and applicable rules.
How do I see the combined household amount?
Use the single-tenant setting. For a group, the displayed amount divides the same combined target equally by tenant count.
