Formula and method

A 10 × 20 × 30 centimeter solid has a volume of 6,000 cubic centimeters. At 1,000 kg/m³, its mass is 6 kilograms.

Volume = length × width × height; mass = volume × density

Worked example

Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.

Density
1000 kg/m³
Volume

Assumptions and limitations

  • The formula assumes a solid rectangular volume with uniform density. Subtract voids or use the actual material volume for a hollow or irregular object.
  • Use consistent units and project-specific dimensions, density and prices. This geometric estimate does not add quantities that are absent from the formula.

Common questions

Does this work for a hollow object?
