Your calculation
Enter enough known values to calculate the blanks.
How to use this calculator
- Enter the values you know in the units shown. Leave unknown values blank.
- Results update automatically as you type. Edit a result to calculate another value, or lock a value to keep it fixed.
- Reset restores the starting fields. A worked example appears below.

Formula and method
Pipe capacity is internal cross-sectional area multiplied by length. Use the inside diameter; the outside diameter includes the pipe wall and overstates liquid capacity.
Volume = 3.1415 × (internal diameter ÷ 2)² × length; liquid mass = volume × density. This retains the source calculator’s rounded value of π.
Worked example
Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.
- Inner diameter
- 10 cm
- Length
- 100 cm
- Liquid density
- 997 kg/m³
- Mass of liquid
- 7.83 kg
- Volume
- 7.854 L
Assumptions and limitations
- Inputs must satisfy the validation rules. Editing a result can recalculate an earlier input; lock values you want to keep fixed.
Common questions
What does this pipe volume calculation tell me?
Pipe capacity is internal cross-sectional area multiplied by length. Use the inside diameter; the outside diameter includes the pipe wall and overstates liquid capacity.
Can I calculate a different unknown?
Yes. Clear that field and enter the other known values. The calculator uses the available inverse equations.
