Formula and method
A 10 × 3 meter layer 5 centimeters thick has volume 1.5 m³. At 2,400 kg/m³ it weighs 3.6 metric tonnes; at 100 per tonne, material costs 360.
Volume = length × width × thickness; tonnage = volume × density; cost = tonnage × price

Assumptions and limitations
- Use values appropriate to the specified mix and placement condition. Compacted and loose quantities differ. This material estimate does not choose pavement thickness, subbase design or installation requirements.
- Use consistent units and project-specific dimensions, density and prices. This geometric estimate does not add quantities that are absent from the formula.
Common questions
Which density and thickness should I use?
