Formula and method
A four-gram quantity costing 12 has unit price 3. A ten-gram quantity costing 20 has unit price 2. In multipack mode, divide total cost by both mass per item and item count.
Price per mass unit = total price ÷ (mass per item × number of items)
Worked example
Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.
- Option A mass (per item for multipacks)
- 4 g
- Option A total price
- 12 USD
- Option B mass (per item for multipacks)
- 10 g
- Option B total price
- 20 USD
- Option A price per mass unit
- 3 USD / g
- Option B price per mass unit
- 2 USD / g
- Absolute price difference per mass unit

Assumptions and limitations
- Mass is positive. A multipack contains a positive whole number of equal-mass items. Enter the entire pack price.
- For a single quantity, enter its total mass. For a multipack, enter mass per item and item count.
- All prices must use the same currency; currency labels do not perform exchange conversion.
- The comparison concerns price per mass unit. It does not estimate total savings, product quality, usable yield or delivery charges.
Common questions
How do I compare multipacks?
Select multipack mode and enter mass per item, number of items and the total pack price for each option.
Are ounces fluid ounces?
No. These are mass units. Volume-based fluid ounces require a separate comparison.
References
Bookify requires positive mass and whole item counts and nonnegative prices for unit-price comparisons. Single-quantity mode uses exactly one item even after a multipack count was entered; hidden counts no longer change the unit price. Multipack mode retains its entered count and inverse calculations.
