How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
  2. Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
  3. Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Formula and method

Two dry cups of the selected short pasta become an estimated 4.5 cooked cups using the retained 2.25 yield factor.

Cooked volume = dry measure × selected pasta yield factor

Worked example

Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.

Dry volume
2 cups
Dry bundle circumference
3 cm
Cooked volume
111.8 cm³
Cooked volume
4.5 cups

Assumptions and limitations

  • Yield factors are approximate shape-specific kitchen estimates. Brands, cooking time, drainage and how pasta is packed affect the result. Long-pasta input is bundle circumference, not diameter or dry mass.
  • The captured US cup conversion is rounded to 236.59 mL. Yield and ratio presets are recipe estimates rather than precise ingredient measurements.

Common questions

What does this estimate assume?

Yield factors are approximate shape-specific kitchen estimates. Brands, cooking time, drainage and how pasta is packed affect the result. Long-pasta input is bundle circumference, not diameter or dry mass.

How should I enter a different quantity?

Choose the displayed measurement units before entering a value. Clear the unknown field, enter compatible known values, and use the preserved inverse branches where available. One-way estimates and rounded package outputs keep their original direction.
