Formula and method
A 10 × 3 meter driveway layer at 10 centimeters deep requires 3 m³. At 1.5 tonnes/m³ it weighs 4.5 tonnes; at 40 per m³, material costs 120.
Gravel volume = length × width × depth; mass = volume × density; cost = volume × unit price

Assumptions and limitations
- Only the geometric layer and entered material price are included. Density, settlement, delivery charges and ordering allowances should come from the project and supplier information.
- Use consistent units and project-specific dimensions, density and prices. This geometric estimate does not add quantities that are absent from the formula.
Common questions
Does the estimate include delivery and compaction?
Only the geometric layer and entered material price are included. Density, settlement, delivery charges and ordering allowances should come from the project and supplier information.
