Use the result with context

Results are estimates for planning and education. Confirm rates, taxes, fees, and legal requirements with the relevant institution or a qualified professional before making a financial decision.

Formula and method

For a 1,000-unit loan over one year at a 12-percent nominal rate compounded monthly, the scheduled monthly installment is about 88.85; the biweekly installment is about 44.42 before any extra amount.

Equivalent periodic rate = (1+nominal rate/compounding frequency)^(compounding frequency/payments per year)-1. The biweekly installment is half the scheduled monthly installment plus the selected extra amount.

Assumptions and limitations

  • The captured model rounds the inferred number of payments to the nearest whole payment. Interest totals follow that many full installments without a final partial-payment adjustment; this can leave a small remaining or negative balance.
  • The selected extra amount is added to each monthly installment and independently to each biweekly installment. Biweekly means 26 equal payments per year, not twice per calendar month.
  • This scenario preserves the captured approximate horizon rather than predicting an exact contractual payoff date. Taxes, insurance, servicing fees, varying rates and lender-specific compounding rules are excluded.
  • Keep monetary inputs in one currency. Currency conversion factors are a captured snapshot rather than current quotes.
  • Clear the unknown numeric field before solving a supported inverse.

Reviewed local arithmetic: Equivalent periodic rate = (1+nominal rate/compounding frequency)^(compounding frequency/payments per year)-1. The biweekly installment is half the scheduled monthly installment plus the selected extra amount. The captured payment scenario requires a positive nominal annual rate. Model input requirements: Use a positive nominal annual rate in this captured scenario.
