How to use this calculator
- Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
- Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
- Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Formula and method
In initial displayed units, Density 500, Board width (w) 10, Board thickness (t) 2, Length (L) 2, Quantity 2 gives Board volume 0.004, Board weight per piece 2, Total board weight 4.
Mid-diameter log volume = π×mean end diameter²×length/4; board volume = width×thickness×length; mass = volume×density.

Assumptions and limitations
- Log volume uses a mid-diameter cylinder estimate, not a frustum or timber grading rule. Species presets are approximate green-wood density scales; moisture and real taper can change mass substantially. Board stacks are rectangular grids; log stacks use ideal equal circular sections. Log stack counts are repeated-row estimates, not exact circle-packing solutions; check row offsets and edge clearance. Exact stack-floor operations accept finite dimension ratios with magnitude below 10^50.
- Use compatible measurement units. Clear an unknown before solving for it, and lock independent known values when comparing changes. Currency choices label amounts without exchange-rate conversion.
Common questions
Can I solve backward from the result?
Clear the unknown and enter independent known values. A rounded whole count cannot uniquely recover a continuous dimension; keep the original measured dimensions for procurement planning.

Board-stack mass uses the board mass per piece rather than the unrelated log mass. Stack counts use exact decimal floors to avoid overcounting immediately below an integer boundary. Enforce the stated physical geometry and whole-count domains. Integer membership is checked with isInteger, so ordinary, tiny and large fractional counts are rejected even when tolerant floor equality would pass. Bookify uses exact customary mass and volume definitions for density units, replacing rounded factors in the reference.
