Formula and method
For a water-to-concentrate ratio of 4:1, divide the target volume into five equal parts. A 10-liter mixture uses 2 liters of concentrate and 8 liters of water.
Concentrate = final volume ÷ (water ratio + 1); water = concentrate × water ratio
Worked example
Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.
- Final volume
- 10 L
- Dilution ratio
- 4 : 1
- Concentrate volume
- 2 L
- Water volume
- 8 L
Assumptions and limitations
- Enter the number of water parts per one part of concentrate. This model assumes the volumes add directly. Follow the product’s mixing instructions and do not use this volume ratio as a substitute for a specified chemical concentration.
- Use the units shown beside each field. This model assumes the stated relationship and does not account for quantities left out of the formula.
Common questions
