How to use this calculator
- Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
- Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
- Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Formula and method
A 3.1 m shadow-box wall with three panels and 10 cm stiles gives 90 cm panel width. A 100 cm rail height minus a 10 cm base and three 5 cm allowances gives 75 cm frame height.
Shadow box width = (wall lengthāstile width)/countāstile width; recessed width = (wallāstileā2 end margins)/countāstile.

Assumptions and limitations
- Panels have equal widths and vertical frame heights. Stile width is also the inter-panel margin in the shadow-box layout. In recessed mode, two end margins are removed separately.
- This is a dimensional layout, excluding wall corners, outlets, cutting waste, uneven floors and structural requirements.
- Clear an unknown before solving backward. Currency controls represent the chosen denomination without exchange rates; prices must use the selected denominator units.
Common questions
What is included in this estimate?
Panels have equal widths and vertical frame heights. Stile width is also the inter-panel margin in the shadow-box layout. In recessed mode, two end margins are removed separately.

Enforce the documented geometric domains and positive whole counts. Integer membership is checked with isInteger, so ordinary, tiny and large fractional counts are rejected even when tolerant floor equality would pass.
