How to use this calculator
- Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
- Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
- Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Formula and method
In initial display units, Length 4, Width 3, Price 10 gives Carpet area 12, Carpet cost 120.
Rectangle area = length×width; ellipse area = π×semi-axis A×semi-axis B; cost = area×price per matching area unit.
Worked example
Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.
- Length
- 4 m
- Width
- 3 m
- Price
- 10 USD / m²
- Carpet area
- 12 m²
- Carpet cost
- 120 USD
Assumptions and limitations
- Ellipse inputs are semi-axes, not full diameters. Pentagons and hexagons are regular. Calculated area excludes roll layout, seams, waste, underlay, installation and tax.
- Select compatible units and clear the quantity to solve before supplying the remaining measurements. Rounded purchase counts cannot uniquely recover a continuous dimension. Currency choices label amounts and do not convert exchange rates.
Common questions
How can I solve for a missing measurement?
Clear that field, then enter independent known values. Lock a known measurement to preserve it while changing another value. Procurement counts are rounded upward and cannot be reversed uniquely.
