Formula and method
A 6.4 m run using 2 m wide panels and 10 cm posts requires three spans and four posts. A 1.1 m height using 40 cm panels needs three stacked layers, or nine panels.
Spans = ceil[(run − post width) / (panel width + post width)]; layers = ceil[fence height / panel height]

Assumptions and limitations
- The captured geometry assumes a straight open run with a post at both ends and one tie beam per span. Corners, gates, closed loops and slopes are excluded.
- Both spans and stacked layers round upward. The final panel or layer may require trimming or a compatible product size.
- Solving backward from a whole layer count returns a compatible full-layer height, not a unique height within the ceiling interval.
- Counts do not determine foundations, structural capacity, fasteners or local fence requirements.
Common questions
Why does the layer count round upward?
A partial layer still requires whole panels to span the fence. Two 40 cm layers cover only 80 cm, so a 110 cm fence needs three layers before any permitted trimming.
References
Bookify requires whole positive panel layers and a fence run longer than one post. Bookify rounds stacked fence layers upward to whole purchased panels while retaining compatible inverse dimensions.
