Formula and method
Four consecutive quarterly amounts of 100, 200, 300 and 400 sum to a trailing total of 1,000.
Trailing total = Q1 + Q2 + Q3 + Q4; P/E = share price / trailing EPS; EV/EBITDA = enterprise value / trailing EBITDA.

Assumptions and limitations
- Use four consecutive non-overlapping quarters, all under consistent accounting conventions. Fiscal quarters need not be calendar quarters.
- Dividend mode divides aggregate dividends by the entered share count before calculating yield. Enter aggregate dividends rather than per-share dividends in that mode. Valuation denominators must be nonzero.
- Enter all money amounts in one currency. The retained currency conversion menu uses captured historical conversion factors, not current exchange quotes.
- Clear an unknown editable field before solving an inverse; fixed selections and output-only fields cannot be inferred.
