Formula and method

A stack 8 ft long, 4 ft high and 4 ft deep is 128 ft³, exactly one full cord. At 200 per cord its modeled cost is 200.

Stack volume = length × height × depth; full cords = volume / 128 ft³; cost = full cords × price per cord

Assumptions and limitations

  • A full cord is exactly 128 cubic feet of neatly stacked wood including the spaces between pieces. This is stack volume, not solid wood volume.
  • The face-stack comparison here fixes dimensions at 4 ft by 8 ft by 16 inches, one third of a full cord. The phrase face cord alone does not specify a universal depth or volume.
  • The stack is modeled as a rectangular block. Irregular piles, loosely dumped loads and compression require separate measurement assumptions.
  • Price is per full cord in one chosen currency. A zero price is accepted; delivery fees, taxes and other charges are not added automatically.

Common questions

Are three face cords always one full cord?

Only under this calculator’s explicit 16-inch depth assumption for a 4 ft by 8 ft face. A different log depth gives a different volume.

Bookify uses the exact 128 cubic foot full cord and a one-third-cord 16-inch comparison stack in the price and percentage equations and every retained inverse. Bookify permits a zero entered price and zero modeled firewood cost. Bookify uses exactly 128 cubic feet per full cord, replacing the captured rounded volume factor.
