Formula and method
At a petrol-to-oil ratio of 50:1, five litres of petrol require 0.1 litre, or 100 mL, of oil.
Oil volume = petrol volume ÷ petrol-to-oil ratio
Worked example
Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.
- Gas-to-oil ratio
- 50 :1
- Gas (petrol) volume
- 5 L
- Oil volume
- 0.1 L
Assumptions and limitations
- No. Enter the ratio and oil specification required by the equipment manufacturer. The ratio compares petrol volume with oil volume; it is not oil as a percentage of the combined mixture. This tool does not determine fuel compatibility.
- Match the units shown and use measured inputs where available. The result follows the stated model and does not account for unentered changes.
Common questions
Does the calculator choose the correct engine mixture?
