How to use this calculator
- Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
- Edit a calculated value to solve backwards, or lock a value to hold it fixed.
- Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Formula and method
Multiply energy in kilowatt-hours by the price per kilowatt-hour. Using 2 kWh at 0.20 per kWh costs 0.40. A steady 1,000-watt load uses that energy in two hours.
Energy (kWh) = power (W) × hours ÷ 1,000; cost = energy × unit price
Worked example
Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.
- Power consumption
- 1000 W
- Energy consumed
- 2 kWh
- Energy price
- 0.2 USD / kWh
- Usage time
- 2:0 hrs / min
- Cost
- 0.4 USD
Assumptions and limitations
- It estimates the variable energy charge for the entered use. Standing charges, taxes and time-varying prices require separate treatment. Use average power when equipment cycles on and off.
- Use the units shown beside each field. This model assumes the stated relationship and does not account for quantities left out of the formula.
Common questions
Does this predict the whole electricity bill?
