How to use this calculator
- Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
- Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
- Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.
Use the result with context
Results are estimates for planning and education. Confirm rates, taxes, fees, and legal requirements with the relevant institution or a qualified professional before making a financial decision.
Formula and method
100 grams at 92.5% purity contain 92.5 grams of fine silver. At 2 per gram, metal value is 185 before the entered dealer spread.
Fine mass = total mass × purity; metal value = fine mass × unit price; buy/sell = value × (1 ± spread).

Assumptions and limitations
- Enter the metal price yourself in the currency and mass unit displayed. The default captured price is historical and is not a live quote.
- Purity is a mass fraction. Spread is applied symmetrically above and below the fine-metal value; refining fees, taxes and assay loss are excluded.
- Enter all money amounts in one currency. The retained currency conversion menu uses captured historical conversion factors, not current exchange quotes.
- Clear an unknown editable field before solving an inverse; fixed selections and output-only fields cannot be inferred.
Common questions
