Formula and method

For bedroom areas of 10 and 20, rent of 1,200 splits into 400 and 800. Two occupants in the larger bedroom pay 400 each.

Room rent = total rent × bedroom area / sum of bedroom areas; each occupant pays room rent / occupants.
