Formula and method
A 2,000 m row in 8:00 has a 2:00 split per 500 m and modeled power 202.546296296 W.
Split seconds = 500 × total seconds / distance meters; power W = 2.8/(split seconds/500)³.
Worked example
Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.
- Total rowing distance
- 2000 m
- Total rowing time
- 8:00 min / sec
- Time per 500 m
- 2:0 min / sec
- Modeled rowing power (W)
- 203 W
Assumptions and limitations
- Power uses the Concept2 indoor-rower/SkiErg pace convention. It is not a generic rowing-machine calibration, a BikeErg formula or an on-water speed prediction.
- The split is time per 500 m. In a minutes:seconds field, enter 2:00 for two minutes; decimal minutes 2.5 means two minutes thirty seconds.
- Distance, elapsed time, split and modeled power must be strictly positive. Power alone determines split but cannot determine both total distance and duration.
- Distance is the ergometer distance convention. It does not establish actual travel distance, rowing stroke rate, body weight, calories or oxygen consumption.
- The retained long-duration selectors use fixed Julian years of 365.25 days and months of one twelfth of that year. They are durations, not calendar dates.
- All four controls, all five captured inverse branches and all 25 unit choices remain available. Changing a time format preserves the duration.
Common questions
Is split a speed or a time?
It is time to cover 500 m at the same pace. A smaller split means a faster pace.
What happens if split time halves?
The modeled watts increase eightfold because power varies with the inverse cube of split.
Can watts tell me my total distance?
Not alone. Watts determines pace; total distance additionally requires elapsed time.
