Formula and method

A 20 ft by 10 ft bed covers 200 ft². At a quoted 40 ft² per bale, the area requires five bale equivalents.

Area = length × width; bale equivalents = area / coverage per bale.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Coverage is supplied in square feet per bale. Bale size, compaction, material and finished layer depth affect it; confirm the actual supplier coverage.
  • The result is a continuous bale equivalent. Round up separately when buying indivisible bales and add any project-specific loss allowance.
  • The rectangular footprint excludes slopes and irregular edges. All dimensions, coverage and quantities must be positive. The retained hidden area supports intermediate calculations.

Common questions

How should I solve for another quantity?

Clear the unknown field and enter the independent measurements. A supported inverse preserves the same model; it does not add experimental evidence.
