Formula and method

A 4 × 5 × 3 m room is 60 m³. A rise from 400 to 1000 ppm needs approximately 0.036 m³ of CO₂, or 0.036 m³/hour over 60 minutes.

V_room = length × width × height; V_CO₂ ≈ V_room × (target ppm − current ppm)/10⁶; flow = V_CO₂/time.

Assumptions and limitations

  • This is a small-addition volume approximation at matching gas pressure and temperature. It assumes uniform mixing and ignores ventilation, leakage, uptake and displacement.
  • Current concentration must be positive, and target concentration must exceed it. The addition model excludes zero addition and cannot lower concentration.
  • Dimensions and time must be positive; time is displayed in minutes initially, while the default flow is m³/hour.
  • The estimate is not a CO₂ exposure limit or an operating instruction. Use independent concentration monitoring and the equipment safety protocol.

Common questions

Why does actual consumption differ?

Ventilation, plant uptake, leakage and imperfect mixing are outside this volume model.

Can I calculate a concentration reduction?

This tool models a positive addition only; target ppm must exceed the positive current value.
