Formula and method
With monthly salary of $3,000, a 10% salary-tax assumption, $1,200 recurring expenses, $200 savings and $1,200 annual car insurance, the monthly balance is $1,200 and the annual balance is $14,400.
Monthly balance = income − savings − monthly expenses − annual expenses / 12; annual balance = 12 × monthly balance

Assumptions and limitations
- The model converts recurring and annual amounts to a common monthly basis, then annualizes the resulting balance by 12. It does not follow actual payment dates.
- The tax percentage is a user-entered flat allowance applied only to salary. It does not calculate tax brackets, deductions, payroll contributions or taxes on other income. Avoid applying it again to salary already entered after tax.
- Savings transfers reduce the amount left for spending but are not treated as consumption. The chart covers the listed recurring expense categories only; it excludes savings and annual expenses.
- Enter zero for unused categories. Negative balances indicate a modeled shortfall; positive balances indicate an unallocated amount. Currency conversion factors are fixed captured values, not live quotes.
Common questions
Why does annual insurance affect the monthly balance?
The model spreads annual expenses across 12 months. A $1,200 annual cost reserves $100 per month, although the actual payment may be due at once.
Why does the chart differ from all cash outflows?
It shows only the recurring spending categories. Annual expenses, the salary-tax allowance and savings transfers are accounted for in the balance separately.
