How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
  2. Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
  3. Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Use the result with context

Results are estimates for planning and education. Confirm rates, taxes, fees, and legal requirements with the relevant institution or a qualified professional before making a financial decision.

Formula and method

Care costing 100 per month with 10% annual inflation totals 3,972 over three years: 1,200 + 1,320 + 1,452.

Annual starting cost = daily rate ×365 or monthly rate ×12; total = C × sum((1+i)^k, k=0…n−1).

Worked example

Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Care cost is supplied by the user. Daily mode assumes 365 paid days per year; monthly mode assumes twelve months.
  • The first year uses the current cost, then the annual rate compounds at each anniversary. Inflation is entered in percentage points. This is a cost budget, not insurance pricing.
  • Use one currency throughout. Retained currency selector factors are a historical snapshot, not live exchange rates.
  • Clear an editable unknown before solving an inverse. Selection controls and forced outputs cannot be inferred.

Common questions

What does this model assume?

Care cost is supplied by the user. Daily mode assumes 365 paid days per year; monthly mode assumes twelve months.

Can I use the currency menu as a current quote?

No. Keep amounts in one currency; conversion factors are a captured historical snapshot.

References

The calculation follows this reviewed mathematical model: Annual starting cost = daily rate ×365 or monthly rate ×12; total = C × sum((1+i)^k, k=0…n−1). Required model inputs: Use a positive whole number of years. Annual price change must exceed minus 100 percent. Care cost must be nonnegative. Accept zero inflation, deflation above minus 100 percent and a zero entered cost.
