Formula and method
A 5 by 4 meter fill at 10 centimeters deep contains 2 m³. Adding 10% gives 2.2 m³. At a custom density of 2,000 kg/m³ and 25 per tonne, this is 4.4 tonnes costing 110.
Order volume = area × depth × (1 + allowance); mass = order volume × density

Assumptions and limitations
- Material condition matters as well as rock type. Solid stone, crushed aggregate and loose fill have different void spaces. Select a suitable preset or enter the supplier bulk density. The allowance adds material; it is not a measured compaction-loss calculation.
- Enter dimensions, densities and prices that describe the actual project. Quantities absent from the formula are not added automatically.
Common questions
Does limestone type determine its delivered bulk density?
Material condition matters as well as rock type. Solid stone, crushed aggregate and loose fill have different void spaces. Select a suitable preset or enter the supplier bulk density. The allowance adds material; it is not a measured compaction-loss calculation.
