Formula and method

At $36 per hour and 40 hours per week, the model gives $1,440 weekly, $2,880 biweekly, $6,240 monthly and $74,880 annually.

Weekly pay = hourly rate × weekly hours; annual pay = weekly pay × 52; monthly pay = annual pay / 12

Assumptions and limitations

  • The model uses 52 identical paid weeks per year and five workdays per week. Monthly pay is an annual average, not a calendar-specific payslip.
  • All results are gross amounts before taxes, benefits and deductions. Overtime premiums, unpaid leave and variable schedules are excluded.
  • Weekly hours must be positive and at most 168. A daily result spreads those hours equally over five days, regardless of the actual work pattern.
  • Use one currency for salary comparisons. Optional conversions use fixed captured currency factors rather than live exchange rates.

Common questions

Is biweekly the same as twice monthly?

No. This model uses two-week periods, or 26 periods across 52 weeks. Twice-monthly payroll has 24 periods and gives a different amount.
