How to use this calculator
- Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
- Edit a calculated value to solve backwards, or lock a value to hold it fixed.
- Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Formula and method
Convert watts to kilowatts, multiply by operating hours, then multiply by the electricity rate. A 2,000-watt average load for three hours at 0.20 per kWh costs 1.20.
Electricity cost = power (W) ÷ 1,000 × hours × price per kWh
Worked example
Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.
- Power consumption
- 2000 W
- Utility rate
- 0.2 USD / kWh
- Usage
- 3 hrs
- Hot tub electric cost
- 1.2 USD / days
Assumptions and limitations
- Rated power describes operation at that load. For a period with cycling heaters and pumps, an observed average load gives a better estimate. Standby losses and other costs are included only if reflected in the inputs.
- Use the units shown beside each field. This model assumes the stated relationship and does not account for quantities left out of the formula.
Common questions
Should I use the heater’s rated power?
Rated power describes operation at that load. For a period with cycling heaters and pumps, an observed average load gives a better estimate. Standby losses and other costs are included only if reflected in the inputs.
