Formula and method
A 5 m by 4 m room with 10% waste needs 22 m² of material. At 25 per m², material cost is 550.
Area = length × width; material area = area × (1 + waste); cost = material area × unit cost

Assumptions and limitations
- Room dimensions and area are positive. Waste is an additional percentage of net room area, not a fraction of delivered material.
- The room is rectangular; for irregular layouts, enter the measured total area or sum separate regions.
- This estimate is continuous material area. Round up to supplier pack sizes and account for installation patterns, cuts, transitions and product coverage.
- Material cost excludes labor, subfloor work, adhesives, delivery and taxes unless those are explicitly included in the entered unit price.
- Arithmetic uses 64 significant decimal digits. Displayed results use the configured rounding.
- Mixed-currency conversions use the captured October 7, 2026 rate snapshot, rather than live exchange rates.
Common questions
Is the waste allowance a share of the delivered material?
The entered percentage is added to the net floor area. For 20 m² and 10% extra allowance, order coverage for 22 m² before rounding to packs.
Does the total include installation labor?
The total multiplies the material area by the entered material unit cost. Add labor and other project costs separately unless already included in that unit price.
