How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
  2. Edit a calculated value to solve backwards, or lock a value to hold it fixed.
  3. Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Formula and method

A rectangular space measuring 100 × 80 × 51 cm has volume 0.408 m³. At a filler density of 20 kg/m³ it needs 8.16 kg. With 2 kg bags, buy five bags to cover that amount.

Filler mass = length × width × height × bulk density; bags = ceiling(mass ÷ mass per bag)

Worked example

Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.

Assumptions and limitations

  • This version fixes bulk density at 20 kg/m³ and models a rectangular box. Curved covers, desired softness, settlement and other filler densities change the required quantity. You can enter a separately established total mass to calculate bags. The density itself is not an editable field.
  • Match the units shown and use measured inputs where available. The result follows the stated model and does not account for unentered changes.

Common questions

Does this account for a curved bean bag and compression?
