Use the result with context

Results are estimates for planning and education. Confirm rates, taxes, fees, and legal requirements with the relevant institution or a qualified professional before making a financial decision.

Formula and method

A share price of 20 across 100,000 shares gives equity market value of 2,000,000. Subtracting 1,500,000 of invested equity leaves 500,000 of equity market value added.

Equity market value = share price × shares; equity MVA = market value − invested equity

Worked example

Assumptions and limitations

  • Keep the comparison equity-only for this share-price model. A firm-wide measure including debt requires a matching firm-wide market value rather than equity market capitalization alone.
  • Use consistent periods, currency and accounting definitions. The result follows the stated formula and the figures you supply.

Common questions

Should I include debt in invested capital?
