How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
  2. Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
  3. Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Formula and method

For all four coefficients equal to one, concentrations 2, 3, 4 and 6 give a quotient of 4.

Kc = C^c D^d / (A^a B^b)

Assumptions and limitations

  • Supply equilibrium concentrations and balanced stoichiometric coefficients. Pure condensed phases are omitted; use coefficient zero for an unused term and supply a harmless positive concentration for its arithmetic slot.
  • This concentration quotient uses numerical molar concentrations. A thermodynamic equilibrium constant uses dimensionless activities relative to standard states; dilute ideal behavior is an approximation.

Common questions

What does this model assume?

Supply equilibrium concentrations and balanced stoichiometric coefficients. Pure condensed phases are omitted; use coefficient zero for an unused term and supply a harmless positive concentration for its arithmetic slot.

Can I solve backward?

Clear the unknown value and enter compatible known values. Choices, one-way outputs and singular boundary cases cannot always be inverted.
