How to use this calculator
- Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
- Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
- Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Formula and method
Example in initial displayed units: Roll or horizontal offset (h) 3, Set or vertical offset (v) 4 gives True offset (c) 5, Run (R) 5, Travel (T) 7.0710678.
true offset = √(horizontal²+vertical²); run = offset/tan θ; travel² = offset²+run²
Worked example
Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.
- Roll or horizontal offset (h)
- 3 cm
- Set or vertical offset (v)
- 4 cm
- True offset (c)
- 5 cm
- Travel (T)
- 7.071 cm
- Run (R)
- 5 cm
Assumptions and limitations
- The offsets are nonnegative perpendicular centerline displacements. The fitting angle is measured in degrees; choose a preset or enter a custom angle. Centerline travel and run omit fitting takeouts, bend radius, engagement and cut-length allowances. A nonzero offset requires a nonzero fitting angle.
- Use compatible units and enough independent measurements. Clear unknown values before solving backward. Display precision does not quantify uncertainty in site measurements.
- Travel-based inverses need a known run or the other required geometric measurements. The retained equations do not combine travel and a preset angle into a direct single-step inverse.
- At a 90° fitting, ideal run is zero. The retained arithmetic can produce a tiny residual that rounds to zero; independent checks bound it below 1e−30 meter.
Common questions
Is centerline travel the pipe cut length?
No. Travel is the ideal distance between fitting centers. Fitting takeouts, bend geometry and installation allowances must be accounted for separately when cutting pipe.
