How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
  2. Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
  3. Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Formula and method

25 points from 20 field-goal attempts and no free-throw attempts gives true shooting of 62.5%. Three points from a single field-goal attempt gives 150%.

TS% = points / [2 × (FGA + 0.44 × FTA)] × 100

Worked example

Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Enter nonnegative whole counts from the same reporting period. The weighted attempt denominator must be positive.
  • The retained 0.44 factor is a conventional aggregate weighting. It is not an exact reconstruction of possessions from play-by-play events.
  • True shooting can exceed 100%, so that value is not used as an upper cutoff. Entered points cannot exceed three per field-goal attempt plus one per free-throw attempt.

Common questions

Does 150% mean an input error?

Not necessarily. One made three-pointer on one field-goal attempt with no free throws gives 3/(2 × 1) = 1.5, displayed as 150%.

References

Bookify allows zero event counts and true-shooting values above 100%, while requiring a positive weighted denominator and physically consistent whole counts.
