How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
  2. Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
  3. Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Inputs and results stay in this browser tab. Bookify does not upload or store the values you enter.

Formula and method

For DC, 120 W at 12 V corresponds to 10 A.

IDC = P/V; I1φ = P/(V PF); I3φ,LL = P/(√3 VLL PF).

Worked example

Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.

Power (P)
120 W
Voltage (V)
12 V
Amperage (I)
10 A

Assumptions and limitations

  • Use real input electrical power rather than mechanical output power unless efficiency is included separately.
  • AC uses RMS voltage and a nonzero power factor magnitude no greater than one. Balanced three-phase line-to-line and line-to-neutral formulas use different voltages.
  • Positive power and voltage describe consumption magnitudes; the AC branch permits signed nonzero power factor.
  • Enter known quantities and clear the unknown to use available inverse branches. Locks retain supplied values. Consistency messages cover fully visible equations; identities with hidden dependencies may require a manual consistency check. Preset values are illustrative approximations, and unit selectors preserve the underlying quantity.

Common questions

How do I solve for a different quantity?

Clear that quantity and supply enough independent known values. Some outputs are one-way or tied to a selected preset, so they cannot determine every input.
