Formula and method

Starting with 1,000,000 shares outstanding, subtract 100,000 restricted shares and 200,000 closely held shares to obtain 700,000 freely floating shares, or 70%.

Free float = outstanding − restricted − closely held; float share = free float ÷ outstanding
