Formula and method

A 0.50 dividend per share paid quarterly annualizes to 2.00. At a share price of 40, the dividend yield is 5%.

Annual dividend = periodic dividend × payments per year; yield = annual dividend / share price

Assumptions and limitations

  • Annualizing one payment assumes the same amount repeats at the selected frequency. Irregular or special dividends need separate treatment.
  • Share price must be positive. Zero dividends and zero yield are valid; the tool does not fetch prices or declared dividends.
  • Dividend yield excludes price changes, reinvestment, fees and tax. It is not total return or a forecast of future payments.
  • Use the same currency for comparable inputs. Currency selectors use the captured October 7, 2026 exchange-rate snapshot, not current market rates.

Common questions

Can I use last year’s total dividend?

Yes. Enter that amount as the annual dividend and use the share price appropriate to the comparison; distinguish historical yield from an annualized estimate.

References

Bookify requires a positive share price so dividend yield has a valid denominator; zero dividends remain allowed.
