How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
  2. Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
  3. Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Inputs and results stay in this browser tab. Bookify does not upload or store the values you enter.

Formula and method

For 1920Ă—1080 at 30 fps and 0.1 bit per pixel, bitrate is 6220.8 kb/s; a 50 percent allowance gives 9331.2 kb/s.

bitrate=bppĂ—widthĂ—heightĂ—fps; upload=bitrateĂ—(1+overhead)

Worked example

Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Preset bits per pixel are illustrative encoding assumptions, not current platform requirements or guaranteed quality. Use custom dimensions, frame rate and bits per pixel for your own scenario.
  • Self-hosting scales upload by simultaneous viewers. Overhead is a nonnegative user allowance; protocol details and encoder behavior are not simulated.

Common questions

Are the presets current platform requirements?

No. Presets define illustrative pixel, frame-rate and bits-per-pixel scenarios. Check the platform and encoder requirements separately and enter custom assumptions.

How does viewer count affect upload?

The single-stream mode sends one encoded stream. The self-hosted mode multiplies bitrate by simultaneous viewers and then adds the selected overhead.

References

Viewer and pixel dimensions use strict integer predicates. Frame rates and bits per pixel remain positive continuous model inputs; the preset rates are explicit illustrative assumptions.
