Formula and method
At 20 per hour and a 1.5 multiplier, overtime rate is 30 per hour. With 40 regular hours per week and 10 overtime hours per month, the model gives 3,478.50 regular monthly pay plus 300 overtime pay, totaling 3,778.50.
Overtime rate = regular rate × multiplier; total pay = regular rate × regular hours + overtime rate × overtime hours, after aligning periods

Assumptions and limitations
- Classify regular and overtime hours before entering them. The calculator does not determine eligibility, daily or weekly thresholds, exemptions or jurisdictional rules.
- The initial multiplier 1.5 is an editable assumption. Use the multiplier applicable to the hours you have already classified.
- Period options use fixed work-time conventions: 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week, 173.925 hours/month and 2,087.1 hours/year where offered. These are conversions, not a count of actual shifts or calendar dates.
- The default regular hours are per week while overtime hours are per month; check each period selector before interpreting totals.
- All rates and hours are nonnegative. Totals are gross amounts before taxes or other deductions, in one consistent currency.
Common questions
Why is monthly regular pay more than four weekly payments?
The supplied month convention is 173.925 work hours, equivalent to 4.348125 forty-hour weeks. It does not assume exactly four weeks per month.
Will this identify which hours qualify as overtime?
No. Enter separately classified hours and the intended multiplier; the tool performs the pay arithmetic for those inputs.
