Formula and method
For 9 people receiving 2 cups each, the model needs 10 metric tablespoons of kernels. The air-popped preset estimates 62 kcal per 2-cup portion.
Kernel tablespoons = people × popped cups per person / 1.8; kcal per person = popped cups per person × preset kcal per cup

- 62 kcal
Assumptions and limitations
- The kernel model assumes 2 popped cups per metric tablespoon at full yield, then applies a 90% yield factor. Actual yield varies with kernels and method.
- The calorie output is per person, not for the whole group. Preset kcal per cup are illustrative and do not account for your exact brand, added oil, toppings or serving density.
- Popped cups are approximate volumes. Kernel volume selectors distinguish 15 mL metric tablespoons from US customary tablespoons.
- The group count is a nonnegative whole number. With zero people, required kernels are zero while the per-person portion and calorie example remain visible.
Common questions
Does the calorie result cover everyone?
No. It describes one selected portion. Multiply by the number of people for the group estimate, using a product label when available.
Why are US and metric tablespoons different?
A metric tablespoon is 15 mL; a US customary tablespoon is exactly 14.78676478125 mL. The selector converts the kernel volume accordingly.
References
Bookify allows a zero-person group with zero required kernels, preserving the separate per-person portion and calorie model. US customary tablespoons use exactly one 256th of a US liquid gallon. US customary teaspoons use exactly one 768th of a US liquid gallon. US customary cups use exactly one sixteenth of a US liquid gallon.
