How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
  2. Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
  3. Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Inputs and results stay in this browser tab. Bookify does not upload or store the values you enter.

Formula and method

When substrate and Km are both 2 mol/L and maximum rate is 10 per second, the model gives 5 per second.

v = Vmax S / (Km + S)

Worked example

Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.

Michaelis constant (Km)
2 M
Max reaction speed (Vmax)
10 1/ sec
Substrate concentration [S]
2 M
Reaction rate (V)
5 / sec

Assumptions and limitations

  • This steady-state initial-rate model assumes substrate in large excess over enzyme/catalyst and a saturating Michaelis–Menten dependence. Km and substrate use compatible concentration units.
  • The captured rate controls are inverse-time rates. Treat Vmax and v consistently as normalized rates; the tool does not independently supply an enzyme concentration or concentration-per-time numerator.

Common questions

What does this model assume?

This steady-state initial-rate model assumes substrate in large excess over enzyme/catalyst and a saturating Michaelis–Menten dependence. Km and substrate use compatible concentration units.

Can I solve backward?

Clear the unknown value and enter compatible known values. Choices, one-way outputs and singular boundary cases cannot always be inverted.
