How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
  2. Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
  3. Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Formula and method

Under the convention 1 gaj = 1 yard, 10 square gaj equals 10 yd² or 90 ft²; 10 linear gaj equals 10 yd or 30 ft.

Linear gaj = yards; square gaj = square yards = 9 square feet

Worked example

Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.

Area in square gaj (1 square gaj = 1 yd²)
10 square gaj
Linear gaj (1 gaj = 1 yd)
10 gaj
Equivalent area
10 yd²
Equivalent length
10 yd

Assumptions and limitations

  • This calculator defines one linear gaj as one international yard, exactly 0.9144 m, and one square gaj as 0.83612736 m².
  • Local or historical uses of gaj can differ. Use this tool only when the original measurement follows the stated yard-based convention.
  • Area and length sections are independent. An area cannot determine a unique length without a shape or another dimension. All geometric quantities are nonnegative.

Common questions

Why keep area and length separate?

A square-yard measurement describes surface area; a yard describes length. Squaring the length factor produces the area factor.

Does this establish a land parcel’s legal area?

No. It performs arithmetic under the stated convention. Use the unit definition and measurements applicable to the original record.

References

Bookify requires nonnegative quantities for this geometric or mass-amount conversion. The international acre is exactly 43560 square international feet; Bookify replaces the rounded captured area factor.
