How to use this calculator
- Enter the known values in the units shown. Results update as you type.
- Where results are editable, change one to solve backwards. Lock a value to hold it fixed.
- Use the worked example to check the method. Reset restores the starting fields.

Formula and method
At 10 km/h with a 3 m implement and 10% overlap, coverage is 2.7 hectares per hour. Covering 5.4 hectares takes 2 hours of continuous travel.
Area per hour = speed × width × (1 − overlap); moving time = area / coverage rate
Worked example
Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.
- Full implement width
- 300 cm
- Continuous operating speed
- 10 km/h
- Fraction of width overlapped
- 10 %
- Plot area
- 5.4 ha
- Coverage rate while moving
- 2.7 ha / hrs
- Continuous moving time
- 2:0 hrs / min
Assumptions and limitations
- Width, speed, area, coverage rate and moving time are positive. Overlap ranges from zero up to, but not including, 100%.
- The overlap adjustment accounts only for repeated width. Turning, refilling, travel between fields, maintenance and other delays are excluded.
- This is a continuous-coverage estimate, not a complete effective field-capacity model. Add operation-specific delays separately for scheduling.
- An acre uses the international foot definition. The soccer-pitch option assumes 7,140 m² and is an illustrative area, not a universal pitch size.
Common questions
Why might the actual job take longer?
The result includes moving coverage only. Turns, obstacles, stops, refills and changing operating conditions add time.
What does 10% overlap mean here?
Ten percent of the implement width repeats an already covered strip, so the model uses 90% of the entered width as productive coverage.
