Formula and method

For exposure on January 1, 2026, the nominal 283-day date is October 11, 2026. The 55-day planning window ends December 5, 2026.

Nominal start = exposure date + 283 days; window end = start + 55 days, or +65 days with the extra allowance.

Assumptions and limitations

  • The 283-day gestation is an approximate conventional planning value, not a guaranteed biological date. Breed, sex and individual animal variation affect gestation.
  • An exposure date does not establish conception. The end date adds a fixed 55-day planning window and optionally 10 more days; these are scheduling assumptions, not a validated individual prediction.
  • Dates are local calendar dates with whole-day arithmetic, not elapsed-hour timestamps. Check exposure records and veterinary confirmation for actual management.
  • The extra-window choice retains the captured two options but is described as a planning allowance, without claiming that first calvers require that precise delay.

Common questions

Does an exposure date prove pregnancy?

No. Use veterinary confirmation and breeding records.

Why is the end date later?

It adds a fixed planning margin to the nominal date. It is not a confidence interval.
