Assumptions and limitations
- The seven categories are hurt, hunger, hydration, hygiene, happiness, mobility and more good days than bad. This observation checklist is a conversation aid, not a diagnosis or treatment rule.
- The captured selectable scale runs from 1 to 10, so the total runs from 7 to 70. Ratings begin blank; select actual observations before interpreting a total.
- A total above 35 is the questionnaire’s retained context threshold. There is no independently validated special clinical category at a perfect score; the all-10 branch simply reports the arithmetic maximum.
Common questions
Can this score decide treatment?
No. Discuss the individual observations and changes over time with your veterinarian. A total cannot confirm comfort or decide end-of-life care.
