Formula and method

1.5 hours is 25% of 6 hours. A zero first duration is 0% of any positive reference duration.

Percentage = first duration ÷ reference duration × 100

Worked example

Enter these known values and leave the other values blank.

First duration
1.5 hrs
Reference duration
6 hrs
Duration percentage
25 %

Assumptions and limitations

  • The first duration may be zero or positive; the reference duration must be positive. Negative durations are outside this comparison.
  • Each duration has its own selector. Compound values use hours:minutes:seconds or days:hours:minutes according to the selected unit.
  • A year is a fixed Julian year of 365.25 days. A month is one twelfth of that year, or 30.4375 days. These are average durations, not calendar date differences.
  • The result can exceed 100% when the first duration exceeds the reference. Zero numerator and zero percent do not uniquely determine an unknown reference duration.

Common questions

Can I compare minutes with hours?

Yes. Select minutes for one field and hours for the other. The durations are converted before calculating the percentage.

Does one month mean the number of days in this calendar month?

No. This unit uses the fixed average 30.4375 days. For actual dates, use a calendar-aware date-difference calculator.

References

Bookify permits a zero first duration and a zero percentage while retaining a strictly positive reference duration. The captured source rejected these valid zero results.
